Bengal: MLA Bayron Biswas shifted to Delhi for advanced treatment after fire injuries

Kolkata, Oct 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) West Bengal’s sitting MLA from Sagardighi constituency, Bayron Biswas, who suffered severe burn injuries after a major fire broke out at his residence in Dhulian, Murshidabad has been shifted to Delhi for advanced treatment.

The family informed of this on Monday but did not specify the hospital where he has been admitted.

The two-time MLA from Sagardighi sustained burn injuries in the fire at his house. His wife was also injured.

Bayron Biswas was initially admitted to a nursing home owned by him in Dhulian. His wife was discharged after receiving primary treatment.

Since the nursing home did not have a burn unit, the MLA was brought to Kolkata from Murshidabad in an ICU ambulance on Sunday morning. He was then temporarily admitted to a nursing home in the city.

The MLA’s brother, Milton Biswas, had earlier said that the family was considering shifting him to a hospital outside the state for better treatment.

It was learnt on Monday that Bayron Biswas was flown to Delhi in an air ambulance on Sunday evening.

Milton Biswas said that Bayron’s condition was stable. However, he added that the MLA suffers from diabetes, which has increased concerns regarding the burn injuries.

“The best possible treatment is being provided without taking any risks,” he said.

There had been various speculations regarding the MLA’s burn injuries.

Dispelling such speculation, Bayron Biswas’ elder brother said that his blood sugar level had dropped before the incident.

Bayron Biswas is currently associated with the Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel faction of the Trinamool Congress, which has been allotted the name Democratic Trinamool Congress amid the ongoing dispute over the party’s identity.

Biswas first won the Sagardighi seat in a 2023 bypoll as the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front-supported Congress candidate.

Soon after his victory, he joined Trinamool in the presence of then party General Secretary and Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Despite switching parties, Biswas officially remained a Congress legislator in the records of the West Bengal Assembly for the remainder of the term, which ended in 2026.

The Trinamool Congress fielded Biswas from Sagardighi in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, where he defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Tapas Kumar Chakraborty by 34,260 votes.

Biswas secured 90,781 votes against Chakraborty’s 56,521.
